Letting Go of My Timeline: Grief, Growth & God’s Better Plan

Welcome back to Life Unfiltered! If we’re keeping it real (as always): juggling edits, uploads, and a full content calendar can be a lot. So today, we’re talking about something that’s been loud in both of our lives—letting go of the timelines we scripted for ourselves and trusting God’s timing instead.

💬 Why We Plan… and Why It Hurts When It Doesn’t Happen

We all carry a checklist: the job, the house, the marriage, the “by-this-age” goals. When real life doesn’t match the picture in our heads, grief shows up—sometimes quietly, sometimes loud. In today’s convo, we name that grief, sit with it, and talk about how God meets us there.

🌿 Jackie: “My timeline didn’t happen… and God still made it good.”

Jackie always imagined a neat arc: married young, baby by 25, career that “fits” the degree (M.A. in Government), a home with her name on it, and a tidy highlight reel. Reality? More complicated—and more beautiful.

  • Career detours: doors didn’t open in the field she studied, so she returned to an early love: writing and music. (PSA: go follow Jackie Self Music for originals 🎸)
  • Marriage & motherhood: there were hard seasons, addiction, recovery, and a lot of unlearning. But God told her to trust—and now she’s grateful for the exact timeline she once resisted.
  • Home & family: choosing to live with parents wasn’t the “box” she thought she needed to check. But closeness, stability, and love became the unexpected win.

“I didn’t get the fantasy I scripted. I got God’s version—and that’s the one that grew me.”

✨ Kashmir: “I had to grieve the life I expected.”

Kashmir’s plan looked different: meet the guy at college, stay-at-home-mom life, clean highlight reel. God had other ideas.

  • Calling & career: God led her into production, branding, and global work across the Middle East & North Africa—learning Turkish, visiting Israel, collaborating in Morocco—then a painful work shakeup that felt like a loss of identity.
  • Identity & image: the “boxes” (marriage, house, promotion) didn’t get checked on cue, and that brought honest grief.
  • Obedience over image: leaving a job she loved felt like leaving a dream—but it also created space for healing, purpose, and peace.

“I realized my worth wasn’t in titles or timelines. The Holy Spirit leads. I follow.”

🧠 The Hard Truths We Learned
(So You Don’t Have to Learn Them the Hard Way)

  • Grieve the picture. It’s okay to cry over the life you thought you’d have. Naming grief is healing.
  • Detours deliver the lesson. The delay often is the protection.
  • Lose the boxes. Marriage, house, title—good gifts, not God.
  • Your road is yours. You’re not behind; you’re becoming.
  • Holy Spirit > hustle. When He nudges, say yes—even if it rewrites your plan.
  • Romans 8:28 rhythm. God works all things together for good to those who love Him.

🙏 Final Word

If your plan is unraveling, God’s plan is unfolding. He isn’t late; He’s precise. Let go of the fantasy and step into the freedom of faith-over-timeline.
